Updates
Moontors looks for a new version when it starts and every 4 hours, and downloads it by itself where it installs its own updates. When a new version is ready, a quiet notice offers Restart to update. To look at once, choose Check for Updates…, right after About in the Moontors menu on macOS, and in Help on Windows and Linux (see Menus and your data). It tells you if you have the newest version, or that it couldn’t look for or download updates. While an update downloads, the item reads Downloading Update… and can’t be chosen; once it’s downloaded it reads Restart to Update, greyed while the restart waits on work under way. Where Moontors can’t install its own updates, it reads Download Update… and opens the release’s page.
Sessions and the board are in Sessions and the board.
- If a file has unsaved changes, a message is being written, or something waits to be sent after the agent stopped or your sign-in ended, it asks first: Keep working or Restart and discard.
- The update waits until the work under way ends, so nothing is cut off: running turns, messages, commands and mode or model picks waiting for a turn’s end, background tasks, side questions, sign-ins, agent installs, and changes Moontors is making to a session, such as an archive or a rewind. What waits after the agent stopped, or after your sign-in ended, waits on you rather than on the agent, so the update doesn’t wait for it, but asks about it first, as above. The notice says what it’s waiting for, and Cancel stops the update.
- Running terminals don’t hold the update up: restarting ends them, and the notice says how many. An update you download and install yourself ends them too, and the notice says how many before you do. It also loses what waits to be sent after the agent stopped or your sign-in ended, as the new version’s background service takes over at once, and the notice names those sessions.
- While it waits, Moontors starts nothing new in a session: a prompt, a side question, a fork or a rewind, or a change of mode, model or settings is refused, saying why, until the update installs or you cancel it. A session you create meanwhile is made, but its first prompt is refused the same way.
- Just before Moontors restarts, it asks again if anything new is unsaved.
- If the install fails, the notice says why, Moontors carries on as it was, and Try again is offered.
- If Moontors can’t look for updates or download one, the notice says why.
- The X, Dismiss, hides the notice until it has something new to say.
