Questions and plans

Besides asking permission to run a tool (see Permission modes), an agent can ask you something: a question with choices, a plan to approve before it edits anything, or, from an MCP server, a form to fill in or a link to open. Each shows as a card in the transcript and waits for your answer. No permission mode answers them for you; which agent asks which is under Questions, plans and other asks.

  • The session’s status is Waiting, and Moontors notifies you unless you’re looking at it.
  • While a question, a form or a link is open, a new message waits until you answer it.
  • While only a plan waits, sending a message sets the plan aside, and the agent goes on from your message.
  • Once answered, the card folds into one quiet row with its kind and how it ended: Answered, Approved, Kept planning, Sent, Opened, Declined, Cancelled, or Not answered when the agent stopped asking. Open the row to see what was asked, with your answer marked and the rest dimmed.

A question card holds one to four questions.

  • With more than one, each is a tab, checked once it has an answer, and the card says how many of them are answered.
  • A question’s options are rows, each with its description: pick one, or several where the question allows it. Where an option comes with a preview, it shows beside the rows.
  • Other takes an answer of your own, and Notes a note for the agent, where the question takes them. Each holds up to 8,192 characters.
  • Submit answers sends them once every question has an answer. Decline answers none.
  • With the keyboard: a number picks that option, the arrow keys move between options, and Escape declines, unless you’re typing in a field.

An MCP server can ask for details in a form. The card says which server it’s from, its message, and its fields: text, a number (within the bounds it sets, whole where it must be), a switch, or a choice. A field that must be filled is marked “required”, and one filled wrongly says why under it.

  • Accept sends the form once its required fields are filled.
  • Decline says no, and Cancel leaves the question unanswered.
  • A form with no fields is a confirmation: Accept, Decline or Cancel.

An MCP server can ask you to open a page, to sign in to it for example. The card says which server it’s from, its message, and the full address, so you see where it goes.

  • Open opens the page in your browser and tells the server it was opened. It’s offered only for an https address.
  • Decline says no, and Cancel leaves it unanswered.

In place of a card, an ask of a kind this version of Moontors doesn’t know says “The agent is asking something this version of Moontors can’t show. Update Moontors to answer it.”

When an agent in Plan mode has worked out what it means to do, it offers a plan and waits for your answer before it edits anything. In the transcript, a waiting plan shows as a card with the plan’s title, Open the plan, which opens it in the Plan view, and the plan’s answer under it.

The answer is the same in the transcript and at the Plan view’s foot, and what you’ve written in one shows in the other.

  • With no comments, Accept this plan? offers a Yes for each mode the agent can go on in, such as Yes, and approve each edit, Yes, and edit automatically or Yes, and use auto mode, the first of them highlighted. Yes, and bypass permissions asks first, as switching to Bypass does. No, keep planning sends it back.
  • With comments, the card lists them, each with the passage it quotes, your words and an X to remove it. Continue planning says how many go back as feedback, and Send feedback and keep planning sends them, each with its passage.
  • “Tell the agent what to do instead” adds your own words to either way back.
  • Comments and words together hold up to 8,192 characters, a long passage cut to fit. Past that, it says “Your comments and words are too long to send. Shorten them.”

The Plan view shows a session’s plans as documents you can read whole, comment on, and answer.

  • The Plan button at the window’s right edge shows once the open session has a plan, under the Terminal button. It opens the view over the board and the transcript, and closes it again. A dot on it says “A plan waits for you” until you’ve opened the view on it or answered it. The view never opens by itself.
  • Open the plan, on a waiting plan’s card in the transcript, opens it too.
  • The view’s header names the session. Its X button closes it, and so does Escape.
  • The plan shows whole, its headings, lists, tables and code drawn as the transcript draws the agent’s replies. A web link opens in your browser.
  • A box at the top says where the plan stands: Ready for review while it waits for you, with “Select text in the plan to add comments”; otherwise Approved (with the mode the agent went on in), Kept planning if you sent it back, or Set aside if the session moved on without an answer.
  • The view shows the latest plan. Once a session has more than one, the plans are listed at the top, numbered with their titles, and a click shows that one. A new plan, or a change in which one waits, brings the view back to the latest.
  • Only the plan that waits takes comments and an answer; the others are read only.

While a plan waits:

  • Select a passage and click Add Comment under it. A box opens with the passage quoted, a field for your comment, Cancel and Add Comment. Escape closes it.
  • Each comment marks its passage with a highlight and a numbered badge, and lists in the answer under the plan.
  • Comments and what you’ve typed stay while the window is open, until you answer the plan; they aren’t saved. The plans themselves are kept with the session.
  • Comments only send a plan back: while a plan has comments, its Yes choices give way to Continue planning. Remove the comments to accept it.
  • A plan, question, form or link that no longer waits can’t be answered again; the agent asks anew instead.
  • A form with a field Moontors can’t show is declined for you; see Questions, plans and other asks.
