# An opcode (Claudia) alternative with Codex and Gemini CLI

opcode calls itself [a GUI app and toolkit for Claude Code](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode): a
desktop app for Claude Code's projects and sessions, custom agents, usage and MCP servers, called
Claudia until it [took the name opcode](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/commit/6b63e50da02d5ea88781441ee019a132b0df5ec9)
in August 2025. Moontors is an agentic development environment (ADE), a Claude Code GUI that runs
Codex and Gemini CLI too, side by side, on macOS, Windows and Linux.

## What each has that the other doesn't

opcode:

- open source, under the [AGPL-3.0 licence](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/blob/main/LICENSE);
- [custom agents](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-cc-agents), each with its own system prompt and
  its own file and network permissions, run in the background;
- a [usage dashboard](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-usage-analytics-dashboard) of Claude Code's
  cost and tokens by model, project and day, with charts and an export;
- [checkpoints](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-timeline--checkpoints) on a branching timeline,
  each restored with one click, with the diff between any two;
- a [scan for every CLAUDE.md in your projects](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-claudemd-management),
  each opened in its editor with a live preview;
- [MCP servers](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-mcp-server-management) added and tested from its
  window, or imported from Claude Desktop.

Moontors:

- Codex and Gemini CLI beside Claude Code;
- a release for Windows, as for macOS and Linux, where opcode's
  [latest release](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/releases/tag/v0.2.0) has none;
- a git worktree for a session, made, used and cleaned up for you, when you want one
  ([Worktrees](/docs/worktrees/));
- an app for Android and iPhone, on [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moontors.mobile) and [the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6824488067), that follows and answers your computer's own sessions over a link encrypted end to end, which no Moontors server can read.

## Where opcode (Claudia) is the better fit

- You want an open-source app.
- You use Claude Code alone, and want agents of your own, each with its own prompt and permissions.
- You want charts of what Claude Code costs you, by model, project and day.
- You want every CLAUDE.md across your projects found for you, and MCP servers added from the app.

## Questions

### Is opcode the same as Claudia?

Yes. Claudia [took the name opcode](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/commit/6b63e50da02d5ea88781441ee019a132b0df5ec9)
in August 2025, and its repository is now [winfunc/opcode](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode) on
GitHub, where its old addresses lead.

### When did opcode last release?

On August 31, 2025, with [version 0.2.0](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/releases/tag/v0.2.0),
for macOS and Linux. Its [last change to the code](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/commits/main)
was made on October 13, 2025, and since then only its README has changed, on September 18, 2026.
Moontors' versions are listed with their notes in [Release notes](/docs/releases/).

### Does opcode run Codex or Gemini CLI?

No. opcode is [built for Claude Code](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode), which it needs installed.
Moontors runs Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI side by side, each signed in with its own account.

### Does opcode run on Windows?

Only built from its source. opcode's
[latest release](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/releases/tag/v0.2.0) has builds for macOS and
Linux, and its [README](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode#-build-from-source) shows how to build it
for Windows 10 or 11 yourself. Moontors has a release for Windows, as for macOS and Linux.

### Is Moontors open source?

No. Moontors is free, but closed source. opcode is open source, under the
[AGPL-3.0 licence](https://github.com/winfunc/opcode/blob/main/LICENSE).
